If you’ve ever loaded the same Minecraft seed in two versions and ended up in a completely different world, you’ve already seen how much the game’s world generation changes over time.
Today I’m excited to announce two new resources on GamingSeeds.com that make those changes easier to understand:
Version Timelines
Every Minecraft release (Java and Bedrock) is now mapped out in a clean, scrollable timeline. You can browse major updates like Caves & Cliffs or Trails & Tales, see when they were released, and link directly to the corresponding world-gen era.
Epoch Timelines
The real magic happens in the Epoch Timelines.
Each epoch groups together all Minecraft versions that generate identical worlds from the same seed. Whenever Mojang changes the terrain, biome, or structure algorithms, a new epoch begins.
If you’ve ever wondered “why doesn’t my favourite seed work anymore?”—this page explains it.
Why We Built It
Gaming Seeds is all about community and discoverability. These timelines make it easy to:
- Understand when and how world-gen changed.
- Find seeds that are compatible with your current version.
- Explore past worlds for nostalgia or research.
Each entry links directly to its counterpart timeline, so you can move seamlessly between updates and epochs.
If you’re as fascinated by Minecraft’s procedural history, as I am, dive in and take a look!
